THE BRIEF
Originally engaged to carry out maintenance on a leaking membrane roof, this project quickly evolved when more extensive structural issues were uncovered.
With the roof nearing the end of its lifespan, the client saw an opportunity to go beyond repair work and invest in meaningful upgrades to improve both the functionality and comfort of their character bungalow.
Working alongside Gel Architects, the scope expanded to include a full roof restructure, making way for a new bank of skylights that introduces natural light into previously dark areas of the home. Additional improvements included upgrading the outdoor entertainment space, installing new insulation throughout, and transitioning the property from gas to a fully electric heating and energy system.
The result is a warmer, brighter, and more energy-efficient home that respects the original character of the bungalow while enhancing everyday living.
This Remuera project is a reminder that good outcomes often come from resisting the urge to simply repair, and instead thinking about how to genuinely improve the home.
